CTBP – Certified Coaching The Body Practitioner
CTBP is our level 1 certification that can be earned by fulfilling a set of requirements consisting of in-person and online coursework, testing, documented practice and private work with instructors. CTBP certification provides a grounding in trigger point concepts and core competency in our unique and effective Coaching The Body™ system, developed by Chuck Duff. CTBP Certification serves as the foundation and prepares students for our Advanced and Master level certifications. No previous bodywork experience is required.
The CTBP program ensures that practitioners are adequately trained in a thorough repertoire of techniques, understand basic anatomy and trigger point therapy, and have the analysis skills they need to be successful at treating common pain conditions, including shoulder pain, sciatic, gluteal and low back pain, knee pain and more.
All of our certification programs are competency-based, and we work with you during your training to make sure you receive the feedback, mentoring and support you need to put our program into practice effectively. You will find that you can achieve results with many pain conditions that might have previously seemed untouchable using conventional approaches.
All of our in-person classes have online components. This means that you will have 24/7 streaming access to the class lectures and demos before and after class. This allows us to focus our in-person time on improving your practical skills and working with you in an apprentice-style learning environment.
We provide a flexible set of financial arrangements to make the program accessible to a variety of personal situations. There are several ways to pay for the CTBP program – please see our tuition page for details.
In Illinois, CTBP certification allows the practitioner to practice bodywork legally in the state. Each state determines legal status independently. For more information, please visit our legal status page.

2 Sessions Received from CTB Practitioners
Certification students are required to receive at least 2 sessions from CTBI Instructors and CTB Practitioners.
Sessions are generally booked at the practitioner's normal session rate. Sessions received at any time before or during certification may count toward the certification requirement.
4 Mentoring Sessions Given to CTB Instructors or Practitioners
Certification students are required to complete at least three mentoring sessions with CTBI instructors or practitioners. At least one of the mentoring sessions must be with the student's primary instructor or CTBI staff.
Mentoring is a very valuable apprentice-style interaction that allows the student to refine their technique, understand session design and to ask questions and identify areas of growth. We recommend that the first mentoring session be done early in the student's studies (a short time after Level 1).
Documented Student Sessions
CTBP Certification students are required to complete at least 45 student sessions. These consist of working on clients and getting feedback from clients and instructors. A portion of these sessions may be performed at the school clinic, in which case the student earns a commission on each session.
The practical exams are to be scheduled when all other coursework has been completed, including additional requirements. The practical exam consists of a 90-minute CTB session given to an instructor. CTBP certification candidates are expected to be able to design a coherent 90-minute session that has an appropriate structure and addresses common specific complaints. We work with you well in advance of the final practical to ensure that you're ready.
